Prestigious publication on the new Queen Elisabeth Hall

A grand opening ceremony for the festival hall at Antwerp Zoo was held in 1897. 125 years later, the same location still resonates to the sound of classical music: the golden Queen Elisabeth Hall, home of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. The anniversary is being marked with a prestigious publication describing the classical music landscape throughout this entire period. The book sheds light on the history of concerts and music in Antwerp from the Belle Epoque to the present day. In a series of articles, the book outlines the history of the Queen Elisabeth Hall and its role in and for the city of Antwerp.

Renowned experts, such as the cultural historian Hedwige Baeck-Schilders and the musicologist Jan Dewilde, have contributed articles based on their own research. The photographer Michiel Hendryckx drew inspiration from a number of significant moments in the royal history of the Queen Elisabeth Hall, and presents them in his own highly distinctive style.
